COUNCIL AND THE AGAWAM SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Meeting was called to order by Council President Cichetti at 8:40pm in the Auditorium at
' the Roberta G. Doering School, 68 Main Street, Agawam. Council President expressed
sadness and condolences to the family of Roberta Doering on behalf of all present.
' This meeting was called pursuant to Section 4-6 of the Agawam Home Rule Charter
which provides that if there is a vacancy on the School Committee within the first
eighteen months of the term "the remaining members of the School Committee and the
Town Council shall forthwith meet in joint convention and elect a suitable person to fill
the vacancy for the balance of the unexpired term. The President of the City Council
shall preside at the convention. A majority of the ballots of the officers entitled to vote
' shall be necessary to such election." Since there are eleven members of the City Council
and six remaining members of the School Committee, nine votes will be necessary to
elect the new member to the School Committee. Nominations will be accepted from the
' members of both the City Council and the School Committee. The roil will be called in
alphabetical order. When your name is called, please state the name of the person for
whom you are voting.

Roll Call was called in alphabetical order with the following City Councilors and School
' Committee members present: George Bitzas, Anthony Bonavita, Shelley Borgatti-Reed,
Cecilia Calabrese, Paul Cavallo, James Cichetti, Richard Cohen, Christopher Johnson,
' Diane Juzba, Gina Letellier, Carrnino Mineo, Joseph Mineo, Donald Rheault, Robert
Rossi, Wendy Rua, Anthony Suffriti, and Richard Theroux. With seventeen present,
there was a quorum.
Item 2. Moment of Silence and the Pledge ofAlleciance
Council President Cichetti asked for a Moment of Silence remembering and honoring the
late Mrs. Roberta Doering and then saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
' Item 3. Filling of a Vacancy on the Agawam School Committee pursuant to Section 4-
6 of the Agawam Home Rule Charter
' Councilor Theroux nominated Brian Burbank. Councilor Bitzas moved to close
nominations which was seconded by Councilor Cavallo. Voice vote to close nominations
was unanimous.
' The vote was 15 IN FAVOR OF BRIAN BURBANK, 2 ABSTENTIONS (School
Committee members Diane Juzba and Wendy Rua)
' Item 4.Adiournment.
' Motion to adjourn moved and seconded. The time of adjournment was 8:46pm.
