CC MTG MINUTES JANUARY 3 2011 REGULAR MEETING OF THE AGAWAM CITY COUNCIL 0 January 3, 2011 President Rheault — Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the January 3`, first meeting of 2011. 0 Item 1. Ck&en's Speak Time President Rheault — We have a David Morin wishing to address the Council this evening and please come to the mic and state your name and address for the record. 0 David Morin — David G. Morin, 437 South Westfield Street. Good evening. Tonight I come before you to honor two people, two people I am proud to call my friends, two people who have been friends to the Town of Agawam — Representative Rosemary Sandlin and Senator Stephen Buoniconti. Steve Buoniconti is a great guy. We met in 2009 at the Pioneer Valley Young Democrats' Oktoberfest in Holyoke, and we've i worked together on several issues since then. As a victim of police brutality, I sought to have a meeting with the Senator to discuss legislation I was working on. Steve didn't hesitate and we had a meeting at 9:00am on the following Monday. Throughout 2010, I had the great pleasure of working with Candice Lopes, Richard Peck and Edgardo Figueroa at the Senator's District Office. I thank them for their friendship and for all the good work they've done for the district and for the Town of Agawam and I thank Senator Buoniconti for his service as senator. Representative Sandlin has been a longtime friend, on the School Committee, with Senator Melconian, as State Representative. Over the last four years, Representative Sandlin has been a tireless advocate for Agawam, Southwick Granville and Russell in the legislature. On a personal note, Rosemary has been a mentor, a teacher to me and to many other I know as I've been a supporter and volunteer on her campaigns. She's always been there for me and for the Town of Agawam, through thick and thin, in good times and bad and I've been very proud to stand with Representative Sandlin. Thank you, Rosemary. I would also like to thank Dawna Fuller for her work in the Representative's District Office. So, as our friends Rosemary Sandlin 0 and Steve Buoniconti cease to be our representatives in Boston, I thank them for their service to the Town of Agawam and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts but I also thank them for their friendship, which I value highly. I look forward to working with incoming Senator James Welch and incoming Representative Nicholas Boldyga as we face the tough decisions that lie ahead in the next legislative session, and in the days and weeks to come.
