L Mew rf ��ea R E S O L U T I O N Be it resolved that the Agawam Town Council hereby ' adopts the following resolution: WHEREAS : The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and the Mass . Division of Water Pollution Control , with the ' assistance of consulting environmental engineers , under a State Grant. , has embarked upon a study , the goal of which is to develop a cost effective plan to reduce or eliminate combined sewer overflows and thus improve the water quality of the lower Connecticut River so that it might be considered "Class B" , or swimmable and fishable ; and WHEREAS : Combined Sewer Overflows contain organic material , bacteria , sediment , oil , grease and other potentially ' toxic substances that can create health hazards and objectionable odors , adversely impact fish and wildlife , curtail recreational uses and generally degrade the ' aesthetic value of the river and its shorelines and WHEREAS : The Town of Agawam has joined in a cooperative : effort with the six other cities and towns in the region that discharge Combined Sewer Overflows into the Connecti- cut River or its tributaries , namely , Chicopee , Holyoke , Ludlow, South Hadley, Springfield and West Springfield , to aid in the study . ' THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Agawam Town Council hereby request of Congressmen Conte and Boland , Senators Tsongas and Kennedy and Governor Dukakis , State Senator Melconian and State Rep . Michael Walsh that any Federal and/or State Funds that are presently available to fund this important study and implement its recommendations , be so directed . i i
