A Resolution Opposing the Selection of the Town of Agawam as the
Community to House the new Hampden County Jail and Supporting the Efforts
to Locate the Hampden County Jail on the Taylor Street Site in the MCC

007 WHEREAS, Recent announcements have indicated that the
BOB County of Hampden is continuing its site selection study for the location of
IP09 the new Hampden County Jail facility; and,
10 WHEREAS, The Taylor Street site -under consideration along
11 with the Agawam sites is by far the most suitable location which provides all
12 the necessary utilities and services required for the proper operation of such
013 a facility; and,
LWHEREAS, The Agawam sites also under consideration do not
015 provide the required services, accessibility, or utilities in an economically
�16 feasible environment; and,
017 WHEREAS, The Town of Agawam has previously notified and voiced
�18 strong opposition to any consideration of Agawam as the host community for this
19 facility;
020 NOW, THEREFORE, THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF AGAWAM hereby
reaffirms the previous vote to notify officials of Hampden County that the Town of
Agawam is strongly opposed to this community being the host for the new Hampden
023 County Jail and supports all efforts to locate the Jail on the Taylor Street Site
24 in the City of Springfield with the appropriate funding.
