A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL 783 RELATIVE TO
' N% TIFICATION OF EMPLOYEES PRIOR TO CANCELLATION OF HEALTH
INSURANCE BENEFITS
r . - Sponsor : Councillor Thomas J . Ennis, Jr.
WHEREAS, There is a petition before the Massachusetts House
relative to notification of employees prior to cancellation of
health insurance benefits ; and
WHEREAS, There is no present law requiring an employer to
notify its employees that their health insurance has been cancelled;
and
' WHEREAS , H 7$3 would require insurers to provide notice within
60 dp,,,,s to the Department of Medical Security whenever a group
heal }' insurance policy terminates or lapses for nonpayment of any
premium; and
WHEREAS , The Department of Medical Security shall be
responsible for notifying the members of said group as to the
opticns available to them in the event of a lapse in coverages and
WHEREAS , The amendment to Section 110 of Chapter 175 of the
General Laws will afford those covered by group health insurance the
opportunity to arrange alternative coverage immediately upon the
' cancellation of an existing policy;
NOW THEREFORE, the Town Council of the Town of Agawam hereby
resolves to notify its State Senatoz and State Representative that
it st;nngly supports the adoption of the above mentioned petition.
