TR-92-13 �p TR-92-�3 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RETENTION OF MASSACHUSETTS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, AGAWAM UNIT, COMPANY B, -; IST BATTALION , 104 INFANTRY WHEREAS, The Agawam Veteran' s Council has been notified of potential reductions to the Massachusetts Army National Guard; and �. ' WHEREAS, These potential reductions may result in the loss of Agawam' s unit, Company B, 1st Battalion, 104 Infantry; and _ WHEREAS , While defense cuts may be necessary, a more equitable distribution of the proposed reductions should be instituted nation-wide so as to eliminate an imbalance that exists and will increase following the proposed cut of approximately 7000 troop spaces or 60% of our current 11,800 troop strength; and WHEREAS, Loss of jobs and income for Guard members, loss of income to local businesses and decreased availability for community assistance in times of emergency would result should our local unit be eliminated; NOW THEREFORE, THE TOWN COUNCIL of the Town of Agawam hereby resolves to notify Congressman Olver of Agawam' s concerns over the potential loss of our local Army National Guard unit, Company B, 1st Battalion, 104 Infantry and to request a more equitable distribution of proposed reductions across the nation.
