Taylor -D Jon . &L ee - N Qkv , WHEREAS, any citizen of the Town of Agawam should have the opportunity to seek any position elected by the town C� council; and ' WHEREAS, candidates for election by the town council may be unknown to some councillors; and 77 - WHEREAS, in the past there has been no set procedure fox., the filling of positions elected by the town council . ' NOW THEREFORE, the Agawam Town Council hereby resolves -- that it shall fill positions elected by the town council in accordance with the following: COUNCIL RULE #43 - {ll Elc t 3 ors by Town CO12rZ4-- 1 1 Expired Terms 1. Not less than thirty calendar days before the' expiration'-,of any term of office elected by the town council, public notice shall be given by the council president in local newspapers as to the availability of the position so that interested persons may submit iri the town council office, i letters of interest in being a candidate for the position. Said letters shall contain a summary of any qualifications for the position, and shall be received no later than twenty-one calendar days before the expiration of said term. The town council shall not consider any letters received after the date established as the filing deadline . The council clerk shall time stamp all letters and such stamp shall be the official -d'ate of receipt. 2 . The name and address of all candidates shall be submitted to the council clerk . The council clerk shall advise the town council of any other town offices or other town . positions any applicant currently holds . 3 . An appearance before the town council shall be held no later than fourteen days before the expiration of the term of office to be filled. At such time all candidates may be interviewed and give their qualifications . ' 4 . Elections shall be held following the interviews . ' (Page 1 of 2) Unexpected Vacancies 5. In the event of an unexpected vacancy in any office elected by the town council, immediate public notice shall be given by the council president in local newspapers as to the availability of the position so that interested persons may submit in the town council office,' letters of interest which shall contain a summary of any qualifications for the position.
