Date: April 18, 2002 Subject:, Site Plan-Worthy Mills Associates - Walnut Street - SP-316' Per your request dated April 9, 2002, we have reviewed the site plan entitled, "Proposed Site Plan, Agawam, MA; By: D.L. Bean, Inc., 40 School Street, Westfield, MA; For- Charles A. Calabrese; Dated: ;Aug. 9, 1998; Revised'. 1-11-2002; Scale; V = 30°,° ;and have the following comment: 1.)' Due to the fact that the current plans call for a conventional sewer pump (not a grinder pump) which is designed to pass a 2-inch solid, we recommend that a minimum 3-inch diameter force main be installed. The current design calls for a force main of 2-inches in diameter, creating an incompatibility. This design needs to be corrected to prevent the force main from getting clogged. We have contacted Dennis Hopkins, who supports these same concerns. The Engineering Division will be happy to accept additional information from a qualified source showing that the 2-inch pipe would not cause any clogging If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact our division. Pre and host construction storm drain calculations for the 2, 10, and 1 0-year storm events will be required. In order to check on the potential for erosion; we would also like:to have the proposed storm water discharge path added to the plan (from the two outlets to the river)„ .Also, the type of terrain should be shown. 2..) The previous Storm Drain Permit application required the following conditions of permit: a.) The area east of the parking lot and north of the northern most proposed building must' be seeded up to the edge of the riverfront area to create an overall lower curve number. b.) This edge of the riverfront area should be staked out to ensure that the correct amount of area is being seeded and that no construction is taking place within the area. 3.) The house numbers need to be added to the plans. '1'lre following numbers should be used for the new quad-ple in a north to south direction): 23-A, 23-B, 2 -A, 2 -B .) A Silt fence/hay bale detail should be added to the plans. Silt fences should be installed between the proposed work area and the existing river front. "The contractor/owner shall be responsible for testing any existing Town gate valve where a new connection will be made. The contractor/owner will also be responsible for repairing or replacing such valve or installing a new valve at the property line in order to allow pressure testing of the new water main." b.) "A minimum of 5 feet of cover is required for all water services." 6.) For the original design of the lot, the recommendation of a 5' sidewalk parallel to Walnut Street, running the.entire length of the property (southern limit to northern limit) was not accepted. However, we would like to ask the Planning Board to reconsider their decision. 7.) A curb cut permit will be required from the Department of Public Works. 8.) The following items are suggested for the sewer design: a.) The sewer pump chamber should have a sloped bottom and the sump area should be reduced in order to lower the potential for the accumulation of solids, b) It is recommended that the 2" sewer line be restrained to prevent any damage from occurring due to the slope of the pipe. 9.) We also have several questions regarding the design of the pump and sewer line. There is a question of whether or not a grinder pump may be used instead of the proposed purnp.
