The preliminary plan was created by the Engineering Office. The site plan was developed by the Agawam DPW Engineering Office during May and June of this year. Once we were given the concept, a field survey was completed, research was performed on structures within Springfield St., and the preliminary plan and estimate were developed. The estimate is based upon installation and materials costs. Construction operations include the removal of 2 feet of fill, placement of gravel and loam, full depth construction of exterior areas of the existing parking lot, overlay of entire existing parking lot, pavement markings, handicapped wheel chair ramps, decorative street lights,a raised planter, sidewalks, slabs for benches, and an irrigation system. The location of the proposed sidewalk is such that if the double intersection of Springfield St./North St. /Maple St were reconfigured an additional westbound lane could be placed with minimal disturbance to the sidewalk. This plan and estimate are preliminary and could be altered as appropriate as input is received from other interested parties. I This project is an opportunity to enhance a major intersection within Agawam with attractive street scape amenities. Potentially the type of decorative street lights which are chosen by the Beautification Committee for this project could perhaps be placed at other locations which are of similar architectural style.
