AGAWAM, MA
PROPOSED CONNECTOR DRIVE
Drainage Report
Introduction
This report has been prepared to calculate the anticipated flow to the area of the proposed
connector drive between the properties located at 153 Bowles Road and 604/630 Silver Street in
Agawam. A locus plan is included in Appendix A.
The project includes construction of a 15-foot wide paved connector from 153 Bowles Road to
604/630 Silver Street over an existing drainage Swale constructed as part of the original
industrial park.
As part of the research for this report, we have attempted to find the original calculations for the
sizing of this drainage swale but have been unable to rind anyone with of copy of these
calculations. Since it would be time consuming and expensive to complete a full base plan
survey of the area contributing flow to the proposed culvert, we have attempted to take a
conservative approach to estimating the contributing area. The drainage area sketch included in
Appendix B was prepared using existing site plans for the properties shown as 604 Silver Street,
630 Silver Street, and 153 Bowles Road, conducting a bite visit to view the contributing areas for
the parcels shown as Lot 7, Lot 13, and Lot 14, and reviewing available Industrial Park Plan at
the office of the City Engineer. No areas were removed from this drainage area for on-site
stormwater management.
Drainage Report
Site Soils: This site is made up of industrial/business type buildings with paved parkinglaccess,
grass areas and on-site infiltration areas. According to the Soil Conservation Service Hampden
County(central part)soil maps, the soil is type MeA, Merrimac sandy loam., which falls into
hydrologic group A. (See Appendix Q.
Existing conditions: As discussed above, a drainage area sketch was developed using existing
information and a conservative approach to estimating the contributing area. For the purposes of
these calculations, the contributing area was estimated at 75% impermeable and no credit was
taken for any on-site stormwater management.
The above area was evaluated for peals flows using the "HydroCAD" Stormwater Modeling
System using a 2-year 24 hour rainfall of 3.1 inches, a 10-year 24 hour rainfall of 4.5 hours, and
.a 100-year 24 hour rainfall of 6.5 inches as taken from the "Rainfall Frequency Atlas for the
.Northeast" compiled by the Soil Conservation Service. The proposed culvert crossing was
evaluated as Pond 2P on the calculations included in Appendix D.
1
SUMMARY
As shown in the attached drainage calculations, and using the above conservative estimate of
contributing drainage area, the proposed connector, constructed using two 24"culverts with
flared ends conforming to the side slopes of the fill area at a minimum of 0.5% slope, will
maintain storm flows through the existing drainage Swale.
A typical section and profile at the proposed culvert crossing is included in Appendix E of this
report.

PROPOSED CONNECTOR DRIVE
Drainage Report
Introduction
This report has been prepared to calculate the anticipated flow to the area of the proposed
connector.drive between the properties located at 153 Bowies Road and 604/630 Silver Street in
Agawam. A locus plan is included in Appendix A.
The project includes construction of a 15-foot wide paved connector from 153 Bowles Road to
604/630 Silver Street over an existing drainage swale constructed as part of the original
industrial park.
As part of the research for this report, we have attempted to find the original calculations for the
sizing of this drainage Swale but have been unable to find anyone with of copy of these
calculations. Since it would be time consuming and expensive to complete a full base plan
survey of the area contributing flow to the proposed culvert,we have attempted to take a
conservative approach to estimating the contributing area. The drainage area sketch included in
Appendix B was prepared using existing site plans for the properties shown as 604 Silver Street,
630 Silver Street, and 153 Bowles Road, conducting a site visit to view the contributing areas for
the parcels shown as Lot 7, Lot 13, and Lot 14, and reviewing available Industrial Park Plan at
the office of the City Engineer. No areas were removed from this drainage area for on-site
stormwater management.
Drainage Re-port
Site Soils: This site is made up of industrial/business type buildings with paved parking/access,
grass areas and on-site infiltration areas. According to the Soil Conservation Service Hampden
County(central part) soil maps, the soil is type MeA,Merrimac sandy loam, which falls into
hydrologic group A.
The above area was evaluated for peak flows using the "HydroCAD"Stormwater Modeling
System using a 2-year 24 hour rainfall of 3.1 inches,a 10-year 24 hour rainfall of 4.5 hours,and
a 100-year 24 hour rainfall of 6.5 inches as taken from the"Rainfall Frequency Atlas for the
Northeast"compiled by the Soil Conservation Service. The proposed culvert crossing was
evaluated as Pond 2P on the calculations included in Appendix D.

This report has been prepared to calculate the anticipated flow to the area of the proposed
connector.drive between the properties located at 153 Bowles Road and 604/630 Silver Street in
Agawam. A locus plan is included in Appendix A.
The project includes construction of a I5-foot wide paved connector from 153 Bowles Road to
604/630 Silver Street over an existing drainage swale constructed as part of the original
industrial park.
The drainage area sketch included in
Appendix B was prepared using existing site plans for the properties shown as 604 Silver Street,
630 Silver Street, and 153 Bowles Road, conducting a site visit to view the contributing areas for
the parcels shown as Lot 7, Lot 13, and Lot 14, and reviewing available Industrial Park Plan at 4
the office of the City Engineer. No areas were removed from this drainage area for on-site
stormwater management.
Drainage Report
Site Soils: This site is made up of industrial/business type buildings with paved parkinglaccess,
grass areas and on-site infiltration areas. According to the Soil Conservation Service Hampden
County(central part)soil maps, the soil is type MeA, Merrimac sandy loam, which falls into
hydrologic group A. {See Appendix Q.
Existing conditions: As discussed above, a drainage area sketch was developed using existing
information and a conservative approach to estimating the contributing area. For the purposes of
these calculations, the contributing area was estimated at 75% impermeable and no credit was
taken for any on-site stormwater management.
The above area was evaluated for peak flows using the "HydroCAD" Stormwater Modeling
System using a 2-year 24 hour rainfall of 3.1 inches, a 10-year 24 hour rainfall of 4.5 hours,and
a 100-year 24 hour rainfall of 6.5 inches as taken from the"Rainfall Frequency Atlas for the
Northeast"compiled by the Soil Conservation Service. The proposed culvert crossing was
evaluated as Pond 2P on the calculations included in Appendix D.
4
SUMMARY
As shown in the attached drainage calculations, and using the above conservative estimate of
contributing drainage area, the proposed connector, constructed using two 24"culverts with
flared ends conforming to the side slopes of the fill area at a minimum of 0.5%slope,will
maintain storm flows through the existing drainage swale.
A typical section and profile at the proposed culvert crossing is included in Appendix E of this
report.
